In Salyan, where the Congress, UML, and Maoists have been winning elections since 2048 BS, candidates from new parties have challenged this time.

In the February 21 election to the House of Representatives in Salyan, there are 14 candidates including Kesh Bahadur Bista from the Nepali Congress, Gulab Jung Shah from the UML, Ramesh Kumar Malla from the Nepali Communist Party, Lalit Kumar Chand from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Anisa Nepali from the Nationalist Prajatantra Party, Chandra Bahadur Khadga from the CPN-Maoist, Kamala Dangi from the Rastriya Janamorcha, Dhruv Raj Oli from the Swatantra, and Dilli Bahadur Gharti from the National Republican Nepal.

The challenge has increased as it is seen that the votes of the three major parties will be divided among the candidates of the Rastriya Swatantra, CPN-Maoist, and RPP.  With the challenge added to the candidates of the major parties by the new party, party leaders, activists, and candidates have become more active to bring the election results in their favor.

Leaders, activists, and candidates have now formed election mobilization committees and are working to woo voters by making various kinds of assurances. The leaders of the old parties are also trying to bring back the leaders and workers who have left for other parties out of anger.

The candidates of the so-called big parties, the Congress, UML and the NCP, have been claiming that their victory is assured based on organizational calculations and the votes cast in the proportional and direct elections of 2079 BS.

They are worried that their legacy will be lost due to the changed political environment in the country after the Gen-G movement. They have established a digital information desk to increase the use of social media to increase votes in their favor.

Ramesh Kumar Malla, a candidate of the NCP, said that it was difficult to win the hearts of the people due to the leaders elected in the past and that the challenges have also increased due to the new candidates. He informed that the campaign program has been intensified with the added challenges.

Leader Chandra Bahadur Khadka, who was in the same party with Malla in the past, is a candidate from the NCP Maoist. "Despite various challenges, we are confident that we will win the election because the Maoists, Unified Socialists and other parties are united and the Congress and UML are also competing alone," he said. UML Salyan District President Bhim Bahadur Sen said that the challenges have increased since the atmosphere has changed compared to the previous elections. He said that the party is actively working to face the challenges. According to the results of the proportional representation in the 2079 election, the UML got 22,000 more votes and this time too, he claims that the UML will win the election as there are no problems among his party workers. Congress candidate Kesh Bahadur Bista said that despite the challenges, the leaders and workers are not distracted by them at all and are working together to protect the legacy of their party. He said that even if the candidates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Swatantra and RPP lose some votes, it will not have much impact and the atmosphere is better than in 2079.
