A traditional wedding festival (Papini Mela) has been held at Daha near Sakh village, Musikot Municipality-7, Rukum West.

This wedding festival, which has been celebrated since ancient times, is called 'Papini Mela' by the locals. This festival is celebrated on the night of mid-Magh by dressing up two girls from the village as a bride and groom.

On the night of mid-Magh, when the traditional wedding music was played near the Sankh Daha, the villagers were seen rejoicing. The previous day, the boys from the village above the Sankh had reached Taligaun and performed the ritual of asking for a girl. On the night of Magh 15, the groom's party, along with 15 girls, danced and carried the groom on their shoulders, and headed towards the bride's house, i.e. the Daha Cheu of Taligaun.

When the party reached the bride's house, they lit lamps and welcomed them. After the groom and bride met, they danced and sang. After some time, the party returned with the bride to the Daha Cheu of the lower village. Meanwhile, the residents of Taligaun were ready to welcome the bride. When the groom returned home with the bride, they were given a grand welcome. The newlyweds were brought in and the marriage ceremony was completed and tika was performed.

There was dancing and singing at the house of the happy couple. Similarly, local Purna Bahadur Budha said that there is a tradition of holding a traditional wedding here every year on Magh 15. ‘This fair is held based on the legend to reduce the influence of demons and maintain peace in the village,’  he said.

After this symbolic wedding ceremony is completed on the night of Magh 15, a fair is held on the next day at noon.
