A year has passed since the pole was buried, but the lamp has not been lit.

What you should know

Even after a year of burying poles and laying lines covering the settlements of Kumakh Rural Municipality-2, Kharkhola, Barule, Langeta, Narayan Takura, Dandakateri, and Ratuwachauna, under the district electrification program, locals have not been able to turn on their lights.

Due to the negligence of the contractor in the line extension work, the locals of various settlements in the ward have been deprived of lighting their lights.

The residents of these settlements are still relying on solar panels . Due to the lack of electricity, various types of online services have been affected due to difficulties in operating internet services. 300 families from 6 settlements have been completely affected due to the inability to light their lights .

Sita Oli of Langeta said that even though the dream of being free from darkness soon was incomplete when she saw the poles being installed, she had to live in darkness till now . She said that she was forced to use solar panels, kerosene-powered lamps and torches for lighting at night . ‘The poles that were installed a year and a half ago have started collapsing in some places  due to the landslide in the last summer. There is no way to know when the lights will be turned on,’ she said.

Rama Oli, 55, said that she has not been able to turn on the lights even after a long time since the pole was installed. She said that even though she had wired the house in the dream of getting electricity soon, it is already old. According to her, her dream of lighting the house at night by lighting the lights has been unfulfilled. She said that she has been requesting the concerned bodies to turn on the lights as soon as possible, but no one has listened to her.

Lal Bahadur Rawat, a ward member, said that despite repeated requests, the electricity has not been turned on due to the contractor's negligence. He said that children have been deprived of education at night, and those with skills in their hands have been deprived of running their home industries.

Despite repeated requests to the contractor company, ward chair Ishwori Shahi said that they have now succeeded in lighting the lights in Neta Bazaar, Kainkanda. He informed that the Electricity Authority has been avoiding the contractor by saying that it has not been able to provide the transformer when they have requested it. He said that a memorandum has been submitted to the district, state and central governments to turn on lights in all the settlements in the ward.
