The CPN-UML has selected Jumla Chairman Shantilal Mahat as its candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.

The CPN-UML secretariat meeting held on Saturday selected Shantilal Mahat as the candidate from Jumla. The previous UML Jumla meeting had recommended Mahat's name as a single recommendation.

CPN-UML Jumla Secretary Man Bahadur Rokaya said that there was no problem as Shantilal Mahat's name was a single recommendation from the district itself. 'The single recommendation was made to unify the party and spread the message of unity in the district,' Secretary Rokaya said, 'The center has selected the candidate accordingly.'

He said that everyone's cooperation and support should ensure UML's victory. Candidate Mahat had contested for the mayor of Chandannath Municipality in 2074 BS but was defeated. 

He was elected as the district president from the eighth and ninth district conventions. Although the Nepali Communist Party and CPN-UML have finalized their candidates in Jumla,  other parties have not been able to finalize theirs.
