The UML has finalized the direct candidates for all 12 constituencies in Karnali for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.

UML is going to field Dhruv Shahi in Surkhet-1 and Kulmani Devkota in Surkhet-2. District President Devkota is participating in the election for the first time, while Shahi has won once and lost once. Shahi had defeated Congress leader Purna Bahadur Khadka in the 2074 BS House of Representatives election and lost to Khadka in the last House of Representatives election-2079 BS.

UML Province President Gulab Jung Shah has become a candidate from Salyan. Elected as a member of the Province Assembly in 2074 BS, he was defeated by Congress candidate Suresh Adhikari in the 2079 BS election. District President Nandaram Devkota has again got a ticket from Rukum West. He was defeated by former Maoist Janardan Sharma in the last House of Representatives election.

UML is going to field Nagendra Shahi (National) as a candidate from Kalikot. He had also been defeated in the House of Representatives election before. Shantilal Mahat, who got a ticket from Jumla, and Purna Bahadur Rokaya from Mugu are new faces.

Dal Phadera is contesting the election from Humla. He was defeated by Maoist candidate Ransingh Pariyar from Humla 1 (A) in the last provincial assembly election. District President Lanka Bahadur Rokaya has become a candidate in Dolpa. 

Old leaders have also become candidates in Dailekh. UML has stated that Rabindra Raj Sharma has become a candidate from Dailekh-1 and Laxmi Prasad Pokharel has become a candidate from Dailekh-2. Sharma was defeated by Ammar Bahadur Thapa of the former Unified Socialist Party in the last House of Representatives election, while Pokharel lost the election to Congress candidate Dikpal Kumar Shahi.

Similarly, Dammar Bahadur Singh, who became the UML candidate from Jajarkot, was defeated by Congress candidate Bedraj Singh in the last provincial assembly election. 

The Election Commission has a schedule to register nomination papers on Tuesday for 165 constituencies across the country where direct elections will be held.
