Stakeholders in the district have expressed a shared commitment to successfully conduct the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21 in a peaceful and fear-free environment.

At a program organized at the District Administration Office on Sunday, the heads and representatives of political parties active here said that they will proceed with the elections as a celebration.

In the ‘Interaction Program for Stakeholders on the Upcoming Elections’ organized by the District Administration Office, the heads and representatives of the parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party (NCP), National Independent Party (NIP), Progressive Democratic Party (PRLP), CPN-Maoist and National Janamorcha expressed their views and said that they will follow and continue the good practices of the past elections and learn from the mistakes and weaknesses to successfully conduct the elections.

Congress District Secretary Parameshwara Bhandari stressed that there were some bitter-sweet experiences in the previous elections and that this should not happen this time. UML District President Nandaram Devkota said that even though this time the election is being held earlier than the scheduled time, it is a regular process and everyone should take it as normal and maintain mutual tolerance between the parties and candidates.

Speaking at the same program, NCP leader Basanta Sharma said that all parties and candidates have a role to play in reducing the extravagant expenses and frivolities that may occur in the elections, and the concerned bodies should strictly adhere to and implement the code of conduct. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha District President Man Bahadur Shahi, while warning that fake votes could be cast along with the commitment to make the elections successful, said that the monitoring aspect should be emphasized.

After the commitment from various parties, the chiefs and chairmen of Musikot and Chaurjahari municipalities and Sanibheri and Triveni rural municipalities participating in the program also promised to provide all possible support from the local government to make the elections successful.

Speaking at the program, District Judge and Chief Election Officer Dipendra Thapa Magar said that the code of conduct is only a tool and that all stakeholders have the same responsibility to use it correctly and get results. ‘With the development of time, both new opportunities and challenges have come to conduct the elections.’ We all need to be prepared to make good use of the opportunities and face the challenges,' he said, 'For this, I am confident that the commitment made here today will be implemented.'

Rukum West, which has only one constituency, will have a total of 76 polling stations and 140 polling stations in this election, informed the Chief of the District Election Office, Mohanlal KC. According to him, there are a total of 16,660 voters in this election in this district.
