Jumla Chief Election Officer Ananda Raj Pant has said that the current election code of conduct is punitive.

He stressed the need to fully comply with the election code of conduct and make the election fearless. Inaugurating the office of the Chief Electoral Officer for the 2082 House of Representatives member election, Chief Electoral Officer Pant urged everyone to fully comply with this code of conduct, as it is not the previous code of conduct but is punishment-oriented.

He also said that strict monitoring will be carried out to see whether bodies, individuals and organizations at all levels have complied with the code of conduct. ‘It is the right of voters to vote safely. It is our responsibility to ensure this right, we are committed to it. You too,’ he said.

He said that it is the responsibility of the Office of the Electoral Officer and the local, provincial governments and security agencies deployed under it to make the election free, fair and fearless.

He said that now the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer will start discussions on the procedures to be considered while registering nominations, the documents to be included and which political parties will come to register nominations at what time. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has set a time for a meeting with political parties on Magh 4 to discuss issues ranging from compliance with the code of conduct to nomination registration.
