45 sheep died in a fire at a sheep farm in Palata-4, Rejulekh, Kalikot on Thursday night. A sheep owner was injured in the fire.
The fire broke out in the shed of 49-year-old Krishnalal Rokaya of Palata-3 at around 8 pm. Krishnalal had been keeping the sheep taken to graze in the thatched shed of a local Kumbha Budha since last November.
On the night of Maghe Sankranti, while cooking, the sheep owner Krishnalal was injured in a fire in the shed and 45 of his 55 sheep died, said Kalikot Police Chief DSP Him Bahadur Khatri. “Sheep owner Rokaya was injured while trying to extinguish the fire covered in straw,” said DSP Khatri.
Although both his legs and back were burned, his condition is out of danger. After receiving first aid in the village, he was taken to the Dhaulagoh health post. Although Rokaya’s 19-year-old son Dhirendra, who was injured in the fire, was with him, he managed to get out and is safe.
After he informed the village, two policemen and a local person from the Kahardev temporary police post, which is 3 hours away from the barn, went to the scene at night, said Police Constable Basanta Bhandari. He informed that 45 sheep in the barn were burnt to death, 10 sheep were slightly injured, and all clothes and food were destroyed in the fire.
DSP Khatri informed that a police team deployed from the temporary police post Kahardev is collecting the incident report. The incident is 21 kosh away from Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot.
To reach Palata, which borders Mugu, one has to travel 7 hours by car from Manma across the Ghats and then walk another 6 hours to reach Khin via Thirpu and Dhaulagoh.
