An order has been issued to capture or kill a tiger that is wreaking havoc in Kalimati, Salyan, killing three people a week.

The order to capture and kill the man-eating tiger was issued after discussions with the District Security Committee officials after the tiger posed a high risk to the lives of the general public.

A man-eating tiger that escaped from Banke National Park killed Gangadevi Sarumagar, 57, of Geruwani, Bheriganga Municipality, Surkhet, who had gone to the forest near her home to cut grass on Poush 23 in Ghuiyabari, Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, Salyan, and Surkhet.

On Poush 25, Dhansari Rawat, 42, of Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, Salyan, who had gone to the forest near her home to collect firewood, and Chandra Bahadur Khaptadi, 65, of Hatidhunga, Ward 6, who were returning home from Ghat on Poush 28. Not only that, the tiger also killed the four-legged members of the locals.

After the tiger created panic, the locals of Kalimati Rural Municipality 5, 6 and 7 are afraid to even step out of their homes.

After the lives of the locals were in danger, the ward office and Kalimati Rural Municipality had recommended killing the tiger that was killing people. After the municipality made the recommendation, the security committee, after informal discussions, wrote to Banke National Park and requested for the implementation of the order.

The order to capture and kill the tiger was issued on the recommendation of a committee formed in accordance with Section 10 A and B of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 2029 and Rule 36 A of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Regulations 2030, said Tek Bahadur Rawal, Chief of the Division Forest Office, Salyan.
