The construction of a 15-bed hospital building in Amra, Kupinde Municipality-1, Bangad, has been stalled for six months.
The construction work was stopped due to the negligence of the construction businessmen who had taken some payment last Ashar.
The municipality had invited tenders in 2079 and started the construction work in 2080 Bhadra. Grind Design and Construction Banke was given the responsibility of constructing the building at a cost of 111 million rupees with a completion date of two years.
After the contractor failed to complete the work of the two-story building in 2082 Bhadra within the two-year period, the municipality had extended the deadline by 6 months until this December. Even when the deadline extended by the municipality was about to expire, the construction company has not worked.
Due to the negligence of the contractor, the construction could not be completed even within the extended time and despite repeated requests, they are delaying it by making various excuses, said Purushottam Acharya, Deputy Chief of Bangad Kupinde Municipality. He informed that the contractor, who had done some work last Ashar and taken payment and went home, has not returned to the construction work yet.
According to him, the contractor has brought 4/6 workers and is currently only doing the work of clearing the bushes. He said that since the construction work of the building has not been completed, the municipal hospital and health post are forced to operate using the old building.
The contractor has completed only 55 percent of the work of the two-story hospital building within two years, said Gokarna Panthi, Chief Administrative Officer of Bangad Kupinde Municipality. He said that despite repeated requests, the municipality has not shown much interest in the work. ‘Since the work could not be completed on time, the municipality had extended the deadline for 6 months until Poush. Sagar Nepal, the director of the construction company, who took payment of Rs 5.5 million as per the work in Asad, has not returned to work yet. The extended deadline is starting to expire. There is no sign of any plan to complete the work,’ he said.
Mahesh Devkota, an engineer of the municipality, said that despite repeated requests, the construction company has not shown any interest. He informed that he has been trying to contact the contractor by phone to resume the work that has been stopped since Shrawan.
