The Public Health Service Office, Jumla, in coordination with the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla, had conducted a health checkup of 72 prisoners in the District Jail, Jumla. During the checkup, the doctor suggested regular exercise and paying attention to diet.
Public Health Chief Kiran Sharma said that 8 people had high blood pressure and 12 people had diabetes. According to him, 25 prisoners were given mental health counseling and tests.
A team of psychiatrists and general physicians, including Chief District Officer Deepak Poudel, Police Chief Rabin Babu Regmi, and Director of the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla, Kamal Thani, had arrived for the health checkup.
Five women are also prisoners in the prison. Chief Sharma said, ‘The prisoners have been found to have high blood pressure and diabetes along with depression. For which a psychiatric specialist has been consulted.’ The prisoners were worried a lot and could not sleep at night. He said that patients with more complex diseases would be taken to the hospital.
Now, the health check-up of prisoners will be conducted every two months, according to the Public Health Service Office, Jumla. He said that for that, coordination will be made with the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences for medical services.
