Walking path to and from Tilakarnali Campus

What you should know

Construction of a pedestrian walkway to and from the Tilakarnali Multiple Campus in Khandachakra-3, Tadi, has begun after students had to travel dangerously on steep paths.

The path was built after students had problems traveling to and from the campus. The foundation stone of the path, which was laid on November 20, will be completed by February, said Khagendra Pandey, chairman of the construction committee.

Currently, the work of widening the footpath, laying stones, and constructing stairs from the side of the Karnali Highway is underway, he said. The path connecting the tourist spot Puja Malika through the campus has been named the JCIS Tourism Path.

Construction of a footpath with railings has been started to reduce the risk of students falling while walking on the cliff from the district headquarters Manma Bazaar. The Karnali Province Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Environment has allocated budget for the construction of the path.

Campus chief Rudra Prasad Sapkota said that since students have to travel dangerously on the cliff, the path is being constructed by making a slope with railings. ‘After 20 years of campus operation, we can finally walk on a safe path,’ he said, ‘now it will be easier to come and go.’

According to him, two students had broken their legs after falling while returning from the campus. The campus, which offers education and management courses from undergraduate to postgraduate, has more than 500 students.
Since the winding path takes more time to come and go, a 3-km short walkway has been constructed, said Swavi University President Hikmat Singh.

The Division Forest Office will bear Rs 1.455 million to construct the 2.3-km walkway from Chautha to the campus, while Division Forest Chief Dharmaraj Upadhyay said that a construction agreement has been signed with public participation worth Rs 382,305. According to him, the walkway leading to the campus will be paved with stones, a slope, a machinery wall and a steel railing will be constructed on the lower part of the path.
