The dispute between locals and police in Dolpa has escalated. The dispute between the police and the local police of the Karop Guard Police Office in Tripura Sundari Municipality-5 and the locals of Lha village in the same ward has escalated over the disappearance of a young man.

The Provincial Police Office, Surkhet, has formed a three-member investigation committee under the leadership of Superintendent of Police, SP Ram Prasad Gharti Magar, to conduct a fair investigation into the incident. The District Police Office, Dolpa, has stated that the team has already left for the incident site.

On Friday evening, a dispute arose after the police tried to check Jun Rokaya, a 34-year-old local youth from Lha village, at the Chhepke bridge near the post on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Before the police could check him, Rokaya jumped into the Thulo Bheri River and disappeared, according to the police. Rokaya is now missing. Locals have accused the police of killing Lakheti Lekheti.

Locals have accused the intelligence police deployed from the District Police Office and the uniformed police deployed from Khadang of taking the youth's life. 'A very sad incident has taken place. The village has lost a youth. It needs to be properly resolved,' said Ward No. 5 Chairman Nar Jhankri.

Families of the missing Rokaya reached the District Administration Office Dunai on Saturday evening demanding justice. Locals of Lhan have announced an indefinite traffic ban in Dolpa until the incident is resolved.

Since the main checkpoint for vehicles entering the district is at the current incident site, large and small vehicles entering and exiting the district have been stopped, while passengers are stranded. Locals have said that those leaving and entering the district for sick and essential work will be allowed to leave on the basis of passes.

After the dual dispute escalated, the local people of Lhan vandalized the post on Saturday evening. After that, all four of the four policemen, including one local, who went missing, were found hiding in a local's house on Saturday night, while Rokaya is still missing.

Police said that three policemen were injured in the incident, while some locals were also injured. Chief District Officer Bhimraj Koirala informed that the police administration is ready to conduct a fair investigation and provide justice to the victims since the incident has already taken place.

Now that an investigation committee has been formed and the police administration is ready to hold talks with the locals in coordination with the local government, Chief District Officer Koirala urged the locals to exercise restraint and not engage in further vandalism or traffic disruption.

After the incident, ten police officers deployed at the Karop Guard area police office have been recalled to the district, while four police officers directly involved in the incident have been placed under surveillance at the District Police Office.
