A team from Shikhar Insurance Company, which insured the apple crops of a Jumli farmer, has reached the farmer's apple orchard.
The insurance team led by the general manager of the insurance company, Udit Prasad Kafle, the Apple Insurance Victims Initiative Committee and a team of people's representatives from Tatopani Rural Municipality have reached the orchard.
The team reached the orchard after a dispute was seen in the insurance valuation of apples, informed Ward Chairman of Tatopani 4 Amar Bahadur Rokaya. After repeated talks in the presence of Jumla Chief District Officer Pradeep Poudel failed to reach a conclusion, the team set out on an on-site study as per the farmers' demand to understand the weather at that time, the geographical location of the inter-municipality, and the climate measurement technology.
The team has studied the geography of Tatopani Ward No. 4, Niyapani, Porihanku, Hankupokhari Khal, which borders Chandannath Municipality Ward No. 8, 9, Tatopani 5 Srinagar and Chandannath 10, which borders Khalla and Lagna.
Ward Chairman Rokaya informed that they also conducted an observation of the weather and water measurement siren technology and apple farms located in Bazarawala, Tatopani Ward No. 6, and a study of the on-site technology and reporting system of the climate and weather measurement center located in Dangiwada, Tatopani Ward No. 2.
The team studied the geographical structure of the geographical border area of Tila Rural Municipality and Tatopani Rural Municipality in Ward No. 1, Ranka, Bairanka and Terapi areas, as well as observing the geographical situation between Kayarkot and Tila Rural Municipality in Tatopani 7.
The team will present a report with the conclusions drawn from the on-site study in the talks to be held on Thursday. Meanwhile, farmers have been continuously protesting in the district headquarters Khalanga since last Sunday. The lock on the office of Shikhar Insurance Company has not been opened.
Farmers have alleged that compensation is being given less than the premium paid, that they are trying to pay claims in rural areas based on the report of the Khalanga Measurement Center, that they are insuring apples without visiting the farmers' gardens, and that the real apple farmers are being cheated.
It has been demanded that the farmers' problems be addressed by immediately releasing the amount for apple insurance. Farmers from Patarasi, Kanakasundari and Tatopani in the district have been coming to the streets of Khalanga for a week, chanting slogans, sitting on dharnas and demanding compensation from the local administration office.
The farmers have also warned the company's employees not to leave the district until the amount of compensation due to the farmers is finalized.
