The Health Services Office, Mugu, has stated that the news that five people have died due to viral influenza in a ward of Rarachayanath Municipality, Mugu, is misleading. It claims that no patient has died due to viral influenza so far and no symptoms of influenza have been found.

The Health Service Office Mugu issued a press release on Thursday, clarifying that the recent deaths were mainly due to chronic diseases and other health problems while coordinating with the local level and collecting facts. The statement states that the deaths are not directly related to viral influenza.

A medical team from the Health Service Office Mugu had reached the area where the deaths were reported and examined 328 people. During the course of the investigation, some showed symptoms of flu and viral fever, but the patients did not need to be admitted to the hospital, according to the Health Service Office Mugu.

‘A medical team had also reached Karmarong Rural Municipality of Mugu and returned after a three-day health examination. ‘In the Magri area, 10 people were found to be showing flu-like symptoms,’ Acting Health Service Manager Dr. Pooja Acharya said in a press release, ‘Influenza type B has been confirmed in one of the people collected. The process of collecting VTM samples of suspected patients and sending them to the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Surkhet, has been initiated.’

‘The patients were given necessary health tests and medicines,’ Dr. Acharya said, ‘So far, no patient has been admitted to the hospital.’

Meanwhile, the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla, has said that it coordinated with Mugu Hospital as soon as it received news of the spread of viral influenza. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pujan Kumar Rokaya said that while coordinating with the Health Service Office, Mugu and Mugu Hospital, it was informed that the news of the spread of viral influenza was untrue.
