Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel has said that the issue of holding the elections on the scheduled date of Falgun 21 is still in doubt.

At the provincial-level security seminar that began in Birendranagar on Wednesday, Chief Minister Kandel also claimed that the environment for the election is not yet ready due to some of the government's activities.

Chief Minister Kandel said that the security situation after Bhadra 23 and 24 is not the same as before and there is psychological fear even among the security personnel, claiming that the environment for the election cannot be created if the situation is like this.

'Although it is not expressed here, the security personnel are in a way psychologically frightened, there is no agreement among the parties regarding the election, how can the security of the polling station be ensured with the 4 policemen staying at the election booth? Chief Minister Kandel said that the environment for the election cannot be created by defining the location of the top leaders of the major parties and expressed the view that the government should take an immediate decision in this regard.

He said, ‘In a party system, it is not possible to hold an election by keeping parties aside. If you want to hold an election, hold intensive discussions with the parties.’ Chief Minister Kandel said that the dialogue held by Prime Minister Sushila Karki with the top leaders of the major parties should be taken positively and only through such dialogue and discussions can the country be taken to the election.

Stating that some terror has been created in the society in the name of Gen-G, Chief Minister Kandel opined that peace and security will only be artificial if there is no way to punish anyone who violates the law. He said, ‘No one disagrees with the demand for corruption control and good governance raised by the youth on Bhadra 23. But there is no way to be confident in peace and security until action is taken against those who vandalized and set fire to the house on Bhadra 24.’
