21 people have applied for the post of Member-Secretary of the Karnali Sports Development Council. The Ministry of Social Development had called for applications for the vacant post on Mangsir 9. The Sports Division of the ministry has stated that 21 people have applied by the last date for submission of applications.
The applicants include former member-secretaries, vice-chairmen, and members. Similarly, even the outgoing personal secretary of Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel has applied.
Former member-secretary of the Karnali Province Sports Development Council Bishwamitra Sanjyal has applied for a second term. He was appointed as the first member-secretary of the council on 6 Paush 2077. His term ended in 2081 Paush. Sanjyal of Sannitriveni Rural Municipality-6 of Kalikot is an engineer in the sports infrastructure sector.
Former vice-chairman of the council Pramod Hamal has also applied for the post of member-secretary. Hamal of Birendranagar-5 of Surkhet was appointed as the first vice-chairman of the Karnali Province Sports Development Council on 6 Paush 2077.
Hema Khadka of Dailekh, who was a member at the time, has also applied for the post of member-secretary. She was also appointed as a member on 6 Paush 2077.
Among those who have applied is Ghanshyam Pandey, the outgoing personal secretary of Karnali Province Chief Minister Kandel. Pandey of Barahatal Rural Municipality-8 in Surkhet was working in Kandel's secretariat. He is not in the secretariat after the federal government issued a circular for cost-saving.
Among those who have applied for the post of member-secretary are Chetan Raj Giri of Jumla, Prabhat Thapa of Surkhet, Dilip Basyal, Jagat Pyakurel, Keshar Bahadur Rokaya, Tanka Prasad Gaire, Deepak Hamal, Padam Van, Ganesh Bahadur Shahi. Similarly, Resham Bahadur Gurung, Rabindra Chand, Leela Prasad Dhakal of Rukum West, Pankha Bahadur Malla of Kalikot, Manraj Shahi, Pankumar Thapa of Dailekh, Ganesh Khanal and Jagat Prasad Rijal.
After the term of the council's member-secretary and other office bearers ended in 2081 Poush, the council has become without office bearers.
The Ministry of Social Development has formed a recommendation committee for the selection of member-secretaries. Nanda Basyal and Ganesh Karki have been designated as expert members, with the secretary of the Ministry of Social Development as the coordinator. There is a provision for the head of the Youth and Sports Division of the ministry to be the member-secretary of the recommendation committee.
The Karnali government had assigned the responsibility of member-secretary to Jawaharlal Hamal, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, in a cabinet meeting on 18 Jestha until further notice. The appointment was revoked after a writ was filed in the High Court stating that the decision was against the Sports Development Council Act.
