Among the 10 local levels in the district, Kapurkot Rural Municipality has completed the construction of a building to operate a basic hospital.
The municipality, which started construction work through a contractor company on June 24, 2078, has completed the construction of the building for operating the hospital in a period of four years. After the federal government allocated Rs 180 million/180 million to each municipality to operate a 5- to 15-bed hospital, among the 10 local levels of Salyan, Bangad Kupinde Municipality, Bagchaur Municipality, Darma, Tribeni, Kalimati, Kumakh, and Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality had taken forward the construction work since 2076.
The construction of the hospital building in Kalimati and Chhatreshwari Rural Municipality has been stalled recently. Construction work in other municipalities is being delayed due to budget shortage and contractor negligence.
Kapurkot Rural Municipality had awarded the contract to PS Royal JV Construction Services for the construction of the hospital building at a cost of Rs 119.625 crore.
The four-storey building was to be completed in three years, but the federal government failed to provide the budget recently, so the municipality extended the construction period by six months with Rs 5.7 million, said Kapurkot Rural Municipality Chairman Durga Bahadur Pun. The municipality has been operating a five-bed hospital using the health post building for two years and is preparing to shift the hospital to a new building, he said.
According to him, doctors and health workers in the health post building were forced to provide services in cramped rooms. ‘After the new building is built, there will be no more problems like before.’ The necessary materials are currently being managed to move the hospital, he said.
Construction company contractor Jimjang Rai said that preparations are underway to hand over the completed hospital building on time. He said that there were some problems in the construction of the building as the government failed to provide sufficient budget.
