A total of 1,124 people from across the municipality have benefited from the eye camp that was conducted continuously for a week in Kumakh Rural Municipality. 104 people underwent cataract surgery in the camp.

The eye camp organized by Kumakh Rural Municipality and conducted with the technical support of Ruit Foundation and Nepal Red Cross Society Surkhet benefited 1,124 people, while 104 underwent cataract surgery.

In the past, the residents of the municipality, who were forced to go to Nepalgunj and Dang for general eye treatment, have received a lot of relief from the camp conducted in the village. Even the elderly, who were forced to live in darkness due to lack of financial resources, were able to undergo free surgery near their homes. The locals are happy to receive treatment near their homes.

Mansingh Wali, head of the health department of Kumakh Rural Municipality, said that the free eye camp was conducted to end the obligation of the residents of the municipality to go outside the district for general eye treatment due to the lack of a hospital nearby. He informed that initially, a camp was conducted at 6 locations in the municipality from November 14 to 19, and cataracts were identified by examining the eyes of patients and cataract surgery was performed on 104 people at the municipality-run Martyrs' Memorial Hospital, Seradanda, from November 22 to 25. According to him, free glasses were distributed to 194 people in the camp.

Elderly Nanda Bahadur Khadka, who has been affected by cataracts for a few months, said that he was very happy to have free surgery near his home after the municipality organized the camp. The municipality has demanded that eye examination services be conducted at the hospital run by the municipality instead of conducting the camp once a year.
