An agricultural biodiversity and food exhibition fair has been organized to highlight the importance of dishes made from organic indigenous crops produced in Jumla.

The fair showcased various dishes made from indigenous crops, from medicinal herbs. On Saturday, District Coordination Committee Chief Gaurinanda Acharya announced the start of the fair by serving Phapar's cell roti. He said, "Indigenous crops are now on the verge of extinction. We are eating food contaminated with pesticides from outside. I believe this exhibition will encourage farmers to produce indigenous crops." He said the exhibition will make a significant contribution to creating an environment where farmers produce, local governments find markets, and traders take them to the market. The fair was organized by Chandannath Municipality for the production, conservation, promotion, and marketing of nutritious indigenous organic products produced here.

Spreading the message about the importance of crops and their nutritional status through street plays and Deuda, this time the work is being done by organizing a food exhibition fair and tasting the taste, said Chandannath Municipality Agriculture Development Branch Chief Sharad Pokharel. He said, ‘Nutritious food items are abundant here. We are using imported food items instead of sending the food we produce abroad. Now the fair has been organized to spread the message of eating the food we produce ourselves and sending the leftovers abroad.’
Seeds of local crops and food items are placed in 12 stalls at the exhibition fair. Phapar bread, Phapar cell, cake, millet bread, and kaguno kheer are also placed. Dishes made from walnuts, apples, and potatoes are also placed on display.

Seeds of crops that have been disappearing in recent times have also been placed on display. This fair is believed to further strengthen the coordination between farmers, consumers and stakeholders. Dishes made from crops produced across the district, from the most expensive and most in demand, to beans, have become the center of attraction.

Balkrishna Budha, Vice President of the Jumla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that quality production, packaging and branding are necessary to bring local food dishes to the market. ‘Currently, exports are happening. But not of quality. This fair will also be effective in discouraging people from looking down on their own products and promoting foreign products.’
