Police in Salyan on Thursday seized an excavator and its two drivers while they were illegally extracting sand from the Sharda River.

Police have taken into custody 28-year-old Setilal Dangi from the Sharda River near Reshamjyula in Sharda Municipality-12 and 23-year-old Lalit Khadka from the Sharda River in Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-1 Mokhla along with the excavator they were driving.

Although dozers and excavators are not allowed to directly extract gravel and sand from any river or stream, they were found to be illegally and arbitrarily excavating, said Salyan Police Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Hem Bahadur KC.

The driver and two excavators who were taken into custody have been brought to the District Police Office in Salyan.
