Locals have placed various demands on Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel, who arrived in Kalikot on Tuesday to inaugurate the new building of Sannitriveni Rural Municipality.

Submitting a 5-point demand letter on behalf of Sannitriveni Rural Municipality to Chief Minister Kandel, who reached Kalikot via the Karnali Highway, Chairman Mohan Bahadur KC complained that even though the Chief Minister has tightened the distribution of plans in Karnali Province to work in the system, the employees have been biased by inserting plans and budgets from the middle.

'The Chief Minister's commitment to cut expenses, make plans more effective, and end the trend of distributing plans through the window is positive,' he said, 'However, in practice, many plans have been focused only on Surkhet and Dailekh. The needs of Karnali, which has lagged behind, have not been given enough attention.'

He submitted a demand letter for 5 plans for Sannitriveni. He demanded the construction of a 5-bed municipal hospital in Sannitriveni, an RCC road from Sannigad to the municipal center, a concrete building for Panchadeval Secondary School, a concrete bridge over the Koli Bagar River, and a municipal-level playground from the provincial government.

'Even the plans included in the budget were cut in the name of cost cutting,' he complained, 'The government's intention of not giving big plans and not implementing small ones was not right. He complained that although a budget of Rs 10 million was approved last year for the Koli Bagar concrete bridge connecting Sanni Triveni to Mumra, the federal government had written to the government saying that it would implement plans below Rs 30 million.

Similarly, Panchadeval Secondary School Mehelmudi here has called the Chief Minister to the school and submitted a demand letter for a 10-room concrete building, playground, furniture, digital devices, etc. There are children in a dilapidated building with a tin roof built 20 years ago. Principal Hiramani Simkhada said, 'There is a shortage of places to live, the state government should look into it.'

He said that the school has tried to make a green school by planting trees and that the school is doing work that does not cost money through teacher, student regularity, and parent interaction.

Complaining about the lack of government services, healthcare, and quality education in Sannitriveni, local Sunish Shahi, on behalf of Gen-G youth, submitted a demand letter demanding the provision of an MBBS doctor, the provision of 98 types of medicines that the government has promised to provide free of charge, and equipment including X-rays.

Chief Minister Kandel assured that the provincial government would take the initiative to fulfill the legitimate demands of all individuals and bodies. He said that he would not lie and suggest that the demands be prioritized and submitted to the provincial offices and ministries through the village executive, district assembly, and provincial assemblies.

He said that there is a tendency to take up projects in Karnali saying that they will develop them but leave them stranded for years without doing any work. He said that the Karnali Corridor connecting Humla-Hilsa Mansarovar, the Karnali Highway connecting Mugu Rara via Surkhet, Kalikot, Jumla, and Bheri Corridor connecting Dolpa Phoksundo, tourism, and hydropower are the main ones for the prosperity of Karnali.

He said that the provincial government has emphasized on prioritizing the plan as the living standards of the people of Karnali cannot be improved through distribution-oriented plans.
