The number of dengue patients is increasing in Karnali Province. Despite the increase in winter, dengue infection has not decreased in Karnali. Health workers say that dengue infection is increasing due to the general public's negligence in sanitation. From Asad to Asoj of the current fiscal year, 1,424 people have been infected with dengue in Karnali Province.

According to the Provincial Health Service Directorate, Surkhet, this number is higher than the previous year. The highest number is in the provincial capital, Surkhet. In Surkhet alone, 1,298 people have been infected with dengue. Dengue patients have been seen in high numbers especially from Shrawan to Asoj.

Vector Control Officer Shyamlal Acharya of the Directorate said that after Surkhet, 78 people have been infected with dengue in Rukum West and 26 in Dailekh. Nine people have been infected in Salyan, six in Kalikot, three each in Dolpa and Jajarkot, and one in Mugu. The Directorate has stated that no dengue patients have been seen in Humla and Jumla. One person has also died of dengue in Surkhet during this period.

Vector Control Officer Acharya of the Directorate said that dengue is spreading due to personal and institutional negligence. He said that the way to prevent this mosquito-borne disease is to prevent water from stagnating, but even neglecting to throw stagnant water on the roofs and in the courtyards has increased dengue. He said that dengue can be prevented if everyone takes precautions from their own homes, but the disease has spread due to negligence.

Now the local level has been given the authority. Saying that this disease can be prevented by not allowing water to stagnate by conducting a search and destroy campaign, he mentioned that if such negligence increases, the situation could become complicated. Preventing water from stagnating, wearing clothes that cover the body, and sleeping in hammocks are the ways to prevent this disease. Currently, government and private hospitals in Surkhet are crowded with dengue patients.

Surkhet pediatrician Dr. Nawaraj KC also expressed concern that dengue disease has not decreased in Surkhet even after the onset of the cold season. He urged people to pay attention to removing stagnant water and managing plastic waste around them. He said that although it was believed that the cold of winter would reduce the number of mosquitoes, it has not happened. Patients are also reaching private hospitals and medical facilities for treatment as usual. Doctors have urged people to pay attention to hygiene as dengue is spreading due to the weather and negligence.
