Himashu Construction Services signed a contract for Rs 5 million in the fiscal year 2079/80 to repair the nearly four and a half kilometer road from Dahikhola to Khulalu on the Karnali Highway. It was supposed to complete the construction work within a year.
The Road Division Office repeatedly requested the company to do the work on time. But after the time lapse, the company that did some percent of the work has filed a case in the Supreme Court, saying that it has not received payment. Due to which the road has been in abeyance for a long time.
Shankarmali Construction Service had won a contract worth about Rs 10 million in the fiscal year 2077/78 for the road upgrade of the Bhulbhule-Pina section of the Karnali Highway. It has neither completed the work on time nor is it in contact with the Road Division Office.
The Road Division Offices in Surkhet and Jumla have started terminating 12 contracts that are in a sick state. For which a 15-day public notice was issued. Surkhet has started canceling 7 and Jumla office has started canceling 5 road and bridge contracts.
The necessary process has been initiated to cancel the contracts with Man Shahi Construction Services, which has stalled the work of the Kalikot section of the Karnali Highway since 2075/76, MK/Amit JV, which has not completed the work of the Dahikhola-Serighat section of 2077/78, and Krishna Construction Services, which has stalled the Balighat section. Head of the Road Division Office, Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary, said that although other companies have contacted them after issuing a notice to terminate the contract, Shankarmali has not yet come. “We are currently studying the explanation submitted by the construction company,” he said. “If there is no reasonable cause, necessary action will be taken against the company.”
The Road Division, Surkhet, is also about to terminate the contract agreements for four bridges and three roads. The contracts for the Bhalukunekhola Bridge under the Gumi-Patihalne Road, which was contracted by Jayabuddha/Nepal Mega JV in 2073/74, the Khurrakhola Bridge on the Karnali Highway, which was contracted by TDR Construction, and the Jhuprakhola Bridge in Satakhani, Surkhet, which was contracted by Kasthamandap Construction in 2073/74, have begun to be terminated.
Engineer Rupesh KC of the Road Division Office, Surkhet, said that the contractor company has been stranded without working on the bridge and road since the fiscal year 2073/74. According to him, the contracts for the upgradation of Surkhet's Chhinchu-Gharivan-Kalche road, which Kankai/Ganapati JV signed in 2078/79, the Surkhet-Ranimatta section, which Nanjila and Akanksha/Majdur JV started work on in 2078/79, and the Gadapani-Balicera road, which Raksha Lakshmi Construction signed in 2081/82, are also going to be canceled. He said that action will be taken against the contractor company, including terminating the contract, confiscating the deposit, and blacklisting it.
