Locals in Sinja Rural Municipality of Jumla are excited after most homes started receiving tap water. Sinja residents, who had to carry water from rivers, streams, and canals in jugs, are now able to fill their taps at home.

‘Every household has access to taps,’ said Sinja Rural Municipality Chairman Purna Prasad Dhital, ‘now there is a need to maintain and protect the taps. It seems that the locals themselves have to do this.’

According to Sinja’s data, 1,064 households have access to taps. ‘Locals were living a difficult life for decades due to lack of drinking water,’ said Chairman Dhital, ‘now they don’t have to face problems just for drinking water.’

From the main market of Sinja to the remote Bhulbhuli, from Dhitalihi to Jodu, Bhadgaun, locals have access to safe drinking water. Drinking water taps have been installed in schools, health posts and every public place.

Which has not only quenched the thirst of water but also contributed to health and sanitation work. Sinja has 214 in Digra, 214 in Jajangaun, 85 in Bistabara, 152 in Narakot, 119 in Phungra, 494 in Gadapani, 64 in Dhitalihi, 130 in Farsebada, 188 in Gora, 54 in Rughagaun, 110 in Jodu, 88 in Chulelagaun, 27 in Dhapa and 22 in Bhuli.
