Nine police offices in three mountainous districts of Karnali Province have been shifted to the district headquarters as the cold weather worsened with snowfall.
Karnali Province Police Office spokesperson and information officer SSP Kedar Khanal said that the transfer of police posts to the district headquarters has begun after the cold and snow began in the Himalayan region.
According to him, the transfer of seven police posts in Dolpa, one in Humla and one in Mugu has begun. 'We have started moving police posts in the Himalayan region to suitable places after the snowfall and cold increased,' he said. 'Since there are no people living in the settlements in the Himalayan region at this time, we have brought the police deployed for security to the district headquarters.'
A police team deployed to protect Til, Halji and Jang of Namkha-6 in Humla has arrived in Simkot. 'With no movement of people, it is difficult to arrange ration water at the police post. The police posts in the Himalayan region will now return to Jestha,'' Spokesperson Khanal said.
Similarly, the relocation of six police posts in Upper Dolpa to the district headquarters, Dunai, has also begun. Police officers from Shey-Phoksundo Rural Municipality, Dolpobuddha Rural Municipality and Charkatangsong Rural Municipality areas in Upper Dolpa are set to move to the district headquarters. Since snowfall and cold pose a risk to life in winter, the police posts in the high Himalayan region have been shifted to safer and more suitable police offices.
