Police have taken control of 31 cows that were illegally transported to Dolpa via East Rukum. The cows were being smuggled to Dolpa and taken to Kaike Rural Municipality without the necessary documents. The police took control of the cows this morning based on a tip-off.
A plainclothes police team led by Assistant Inspector Dal Bahadur Sarki from the District Police Office seized the cow. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ruk Bahadur Khadka informed that all the seized cows have been kept in the prison premises under police protection.
'It seems that cows have been illegally brought in like this in previous years as well,' he said, 'Since I came, I have instructed to tighten up on such acts. Currently, the fine is five thousand. There is a legal provision for one month's imprisonment and a fine of 25 thousand if the same person repeats such activities.
Permission from the concerned Animal Service Office, recommendation from the ward and a route permit to the place where the cow is to be taken are also required. 'We have asked the person who ordered the cow to bring the recommendation of the concerned ward along with these documents stating that it is necessary. If all the documents are collected, the cow will be released only after getting the documents,' he said.
Police have stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether to send it back or file a case if all these processes are not completed.
Dr. Sajan Rokaya, head of the Animal Hospital and Animal Services Office, said that a fine of Rs. 5,000 will be imposed for not having the necessary documents. 'What is the purpose of the remaining cows? The police will investigate. According to the rules, it is not possible to illegally bring livestock without veterinary documents,' Dr. Rokaya said.
