As Tihar approaches, farmers in the district are busy in their fields. Farmers are about to bring in the ripe paddy crop.

Fearing that wild animals will destroy the ripe crops and that rain will damage them, farmers are starting to import paddy rather than buying for the festival.

Farmers are in the fields from morning to evening. Bir Bahadur Budha, a farmer from Triveni Rural Municipality-1, Kavra, said that they are starting to import paddy before Tihar because of the risk of damage to the ripe paddy if it rains suddenly.

‘Two years ago, instead of celebrating Dashain and harvesting the crop, most of them were unable to import paddy after it rained continuously for a week. That is why we are trying to harvest it before Tihar,’ he said.
