The endangered Raute tribal community, which is living a nomadic life, has chosen a new chief. They chose 43-year-old Sher Bahadur Shahi as their leader. He has been made the main head of the Raute community along with the Raskoti group.

After the death of 49-year-old Suryanarayan Shahi, the chief head of Raute last Baisak, now the Raute community has chosen a new head. Barahtal rural municipality-8 in the settlement in Sotkhola  He died. Suryanarayan, who fell ill due to excessive alcohol consumption, initially refused to go to the hospital. In the end, he died the same night because he said he would go the next day.

Suryanarayan was the main chief of the Raute community, which had three chiefs. Raskoti Shahi surnamed him at the age of 28 years, 21 years ago Mahamukhiya Mahin Bahadur Shahi made him a head. Mahin Bahadur, who is related to Bhanja, made him the chief because he was having problems to support himself alone. Suryanarayan used to say that Mahin Bahadur used to make himself do half-time work.

The new chief Sher Bahadur is Suryanarayan's brother. He will now lead the Raute community. In the past, there was only one headman in the Raute community, but recently there has been a trend of making 3 headmen. Showansi and Kalyal castes also have six chiefs. Dil Bahadur Shahi of Showansi is the chief while 62-year-old Bir Bahadur Shahi is the chief of the Kalyal clan. The chief leads the community. If something needs to be done in the community, it is the headman who leads it.

The management of relief by going outside the community  To distribute to the people  The new Mukhiya Sher Bahadur said that the Mukhiya should do the same work. He also said that everyone will be taken together. He said that he will work for his people. They should also go hunting. When moving to a new place, the chief also decides where to move. The chief should also do the work of collecting insufficient food, meeting with the heads and representatives of various agencies. The chief should also take charge of various other activities in the settlement.

After Mahin Bahadur's death in 2080, Suryanarayan moved forward as the chief. Before Mahin Bahadur, his father Man Bahadur was the Shahi Mukhiya. This time again Suryanarayan's brother has become the main head of Raute. It is a practice in the Raute community that the community that chooses a new head after death or cannot work due to old age chooses a close relative. 

Only men have been the heads of the Raute community so far. Lal Bahadur Khatri, a pair of teachers working in the settlement through the route project, informed that even though women are not made heads, they also take the decision.

Three days before Dasain, although the new headman was given the responsibility, the community started the process of choosing a new headman from July. In the month of July, two meetings were held regarding the selection. A consensus was reached on the name of Sher Bahadur. A day before choosing the chief, a meeting was held again and the final decision was made. And the couple chosen as the head teacher said Khatri. 

During this period, the community tested Sher Bahadur, he said. He was made a chief when everyone was ready to accept him as chief.

'It is not only men who choose the chief. Women should also agree,' he said, 'and it is customary to choose only the head. Those who are over 20 years old and married are made heads.' Dil Bahadur says that as much as possible, mature men with children are made chiefs. According to him, everyone should agree to obey the chief.

After everyone agrees to accept what the head says, a period of one to two months is set aside for him to think about what he should/shouldn't do.

The Raute community was also in the process of choosing a new headman in Kalyal Thaar. After the current Mukhiya Bir Bahadur Shahi, who is 62 years old, was getting older, there were preparations to make Prakash Shahi the Mukhiya. Prakash is also a relative of Veer Bahadur. But since Veer Bahadur will not hand over the leadership right now, Prakash has not been selected, said the pair teacher Khatri. A meeting was also held for Prakash. But Bir Bahadur said that Prakash would do the work outside and he would do all the work of other communities, he said.
