Hira Bahadur Budha of Phugra Village, Sinja Rural Municipality-5, Jumla, earned one lakh 68 thousand rupees by selling apples this year. He sold it in the garden at Rs 70 per kg. The merchants went to the garden and took the apples. Red, Royal and Golden apples have been planted in his garden.

Apples, which were used as fodder for cattle in the villages until a decade ago, have reached the main cities of the country with the addition of road networks. Hira Bahadur said, 'Now apples have given employment at home.'

Jag Bahadur Budha of Jodu Village, Sinja Rural Municipality-6 recalled that apples rotted in the garden when they could not transport them. Earlier, apples had no value, nor any importance,' Jag Bahadur added, 'now there is wealth in the village by selling apples.'  This year, Jag Bahadur earned 3 lakh 52 thousand rupees by selling apples.

There are more than 500 fruit-bearing apple trees in his garden spread over 17,000 square meters. In addition, Nar Bahadur earned 2 lakh 15 thousand rupees, Chandra Bahadur 260 thousand 480 rupees and Gopal Budha earned 1 lakh 85 thousand rupees. Selling so many apples in a remote village is not a good thing to earn money.

Lal Bahadur Budha of Sinja Rural Municipality-6 said that 111 houses of Jodu Rural Municipality sold apples worth at least 50 thousand rupees. According to him, the ward office has the statistics that only Jodu village sold apples worth 55 lakh 50 thousand rupees this year. Apples are planted in every garden of Jodu. Other crops have been planted inside the apple orchard.

Narmjang Rokaya of Sinja Rural Municipality-5 Phugragaon said that he sold 57 quintals of apples. According to him, an income of 6 lakh rupees was earned from this. There are 106 households in Fugragaon. There are many farmers in the village who sell apples for a minimum of 80 thousand to 1 lakh rupees. According to the statistics of Sinja-5 ward office, this year alone, apples worth 16 million rupees have been exported outside the district. Now, since the road is connected to the village, it is very easy to transport apples.

Once upon a time there was a compulsion to carry a load of apples from the village to Khalanga by walking for a day. But now the truck reaches the garden itself. Apples from here are taken to markets in Pokhara and Kathmandu via Surkhet, Nepalgunj, Kohalpur. Locals said that since apples started to be sold in the village, it has become easier for children to go to the hospital when they are sick.

Currently, Phungr and Jodu villages of Sinja are moving in the direction of bringing prosperity with apples. Agriculture Office Jumla has informed that 20 thousand 511 metric tons of 46 quintals of apples have been produced in 4 thousand 400 hectares of apple cultivation in Jumla. In which 9 thousand 391 metric tons of apples were exported outside the district. 61 crore last year  Apples worth 41 lakh 5 thousand rupees were sold by Jumla.

In Jumla, apples of red, royal and golden varieties grow. Apple grows in all 60 wards of 8 local levels of the district. Although the farmers send A and B grade apples outside the district, they make small-sized apple chana, jam, jelly and juice. The local government has also been providing training and equipment to make apple dishes. Earlier, I used to worry when the apples ripened, but now the apple plants are not blooming and I am excited.
