Lately, due to excessive deforestation, the linga that changes every year in the famous religious place of Karnali, Chandannath Bhairavanath Temple, has been left. Locals say that they have to go very far to find trees for making lingo.

"Earlier there were plenty of trees near the village so there was no need to go far to find a tree to make a linga," said Ratnaprasad Acharya, head of the office of Chandannath Bhairavanath Guthi Samiti, "Now we have to go far." According to him, it has been a tradition to bring lingo from the Lamasim Radikhella forest located in Chandannath Municipality-3. It is customary to put two lingas of 52 cubits for Chandannath temple and a linga of 48 cubits for Bhairavanath .

'Now neither trees are found to make lingas, nor devotees who bring lingas,' the chief Acharya added, 'big trees are not found in the forest . Applying the linga of small trees does not work . ’  According to

tradition, on the day of Rishi Panchami, a linga should be taken out of the forest and brought to the headquarters in Khalanga on Ashwin Krishna Trayodashi. Guthi Committee Chairman Amar Bahadur Thapa informed that there is a tradition of erecting a linga at the Chandannath Bhairavnath temple after offering prayers on the day of Ghatasthapana.

Earlier people used to bring the linga to the Chandannath Bhairavanath temple in Khalanga by carrying the linga in their hands. As soon as the vehicle reached the headquarter Khalanga, the linga has been brought by tractors for the last four years. Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police and ordinary citizens have been dragging the linga to Khalanga on the road.

On the first day of making a linga, the forest is worshiped . There is a tradition of cutting trees only by offering goats. To pull the linga, the team with the bagagaza goes to the forest after performing the puja.

Earlier, the sticks used to pull the linga were brought from Mugu. The tying rope used to come from Humla. The ropes needed to erect the linga were sent from Kaliko. Now goods have stopped coming from all these districts. The experts say that the last generation is not responsible for dharmakarma and the first generation is unable to embrace the customs and culture.
