Karnali highway has been blocked due to landslides in Shubhakalika-1 Gangane river in Calikot. As soon as it rains, landslides with mud and stones cause trouble to the passengers.
Bir Bahadur Sunar, Information Officer of Kalikot District Police Office, said that the Karnali highway was blocked from 3 am on Wednesday due to last night's rain. The landslide occurred in the morning due to the rain since yesterday evening. He said, JCV machine has been installed to remove the landslide.
Again, due to a landslide in the river Gangne, the train going to Surkhet was stopped at 8 km at Hulma and the train coming from Surkhet was stopped at Malachaur. According to him, the road has been blocked for 37 days after 28 landslides have occurred since June. He said that the road will be opened in 2/3 hours after the rain stops.
As the landslide here has caused a lot of suffering to the residents of Karnali, the locals are demanding that a road should be built to connect Khulalu via Vanakot in Achham. "There was a lot of suffering due to the daily landslides," he said.
Pradeep Bohora, the spokesperson of Narharinath Rural Municipality, said that as an alternative route, a road should be opened connecting Rakam bridge in Dailekh through Chiltada-Vanakot in Achham.
He suggested that Achham's Vinayak Panchdeval Municipality and Naraharinath Rural Municipality should cooperate and put pressure on the government to build a road from Pallo Chaal.
