Even though it has been almost 7 years since the building of Nepal Journalist Federation Rukumpaschim district branch, it has not been used. The office building constructed in Musikot-1 is not in use and is getting dilapidated. Journalist organizations have locked the contact office in Khalanga market for 6 months with various demands.
The federation building was built in 2073 under the leadership of the then president Ganesh Vick in Musikot-1 Chandanath village. The building was constructed at a total cost of 14 lakhs. But Purna Bahadur Vick, a construction businessman, has complained that he has not yet received 8 lakhs of the amount he was supposed to receive as per the contract for the construction of the building.
The matter was further prolonged after a complaint was filed in Surkhet in the name of the then president Vick regarding the construction of the building. The then chairman Vick has claimed that the case before the authority has been completed and all matters related to the building have been resolved.
The current president Gopal Regmi has said that the issue of building construction transactions is now between the then president and construction professionals, and the federation is taking necessary steps to use the building.
A liaison office of the Federation has been established by renting a room in a private house in Khalanga Bazar of Musikot-1. This office has also been locked since 5th Chait 2081.
Press Union close to Congress, Press Chautari close to UML and Samajwadi Press Organization close to the United Socialist Party are still locked. The office has been locked due to the demands of 'purification and recommendation of ordinary members, financial transparency within the district branch, proportional advertising system and the current branch's arbitrariness in nominated members in the district working committee'.
District President of Nepal Journalist Federation Rukum West, Regmi has claimed that there has been an all-sided discussion on the matter of opening the office lock and said that no solution has been reached so far. The discussion has reached its final stage. The lock of the office will be opened in the next few days and the activities of the federation will continue," he said.
President of the press union Samitra KC said that despite repeated discussions about opening the lock on the office, it did not yield results, and said that they would soon come to a conclusion on the matter. Bharat Chand, District President of Samajwadi Press Organization, said that even though other matters have been agreed upon, only the matter of membership purification has yet to be agreed upon, and it will be decided within a few days.
