The Rapti highway, which was blocked since Tuesday morning due to landslides after incessant rains, opened after seven hours. After the rain stopped, the blocked highway was opened after the dozer removed the landslide.
More than a dozen passenger vehicles, which were stopped after the road was blocked, are heading towards their destination. Even though the highway is open, the risk is still the same as the rocks are falling.
Kapurkot Rural Municipality-3 Chorkhola area was hit by a large landslide and it is difficult to remove it because it is raining and it is taking time to open the highway, District Police Office Salyan Police Inspector Resham Khatri said.
Although the Rapti highway is open, he has asked the drivers and passengers to exercise caution when approaching the section of the road as rocks are falling from above. Due to daily landslides around Chorkhola, the residents of the district have been advised not to travel at night.
As soon as the rains occur, the road is damaged due to the landslides, and the passengers are suffering while traveling in the vehicle and the risk of accidents has also increased.
