After increasing crime incidents, Birendranagar Municipality has started installation of CC TV cameras in public places. As the incidents of public crimes and vehicle accidents started to increase along with the increasing population density, the municipality started the process of installing cameras at 355 locations.
A tripartite agreement has been signed between Birendranagar municipality, Nepal Telecom's regional office and the district police office for the installation of cameras. In the first phase, keeping in mind the security sensitivity, CC cameras will be installed at 105 locations within the next 6 months.
In the second phase, additional cameras will be installed at 250 locations as needed. According to the agreement, Telecom will have to install CC cameras with optical fiber and Wi-Fi hotspots. Telecom will also provide service to keep the connected cameras operational round the clock.
The municipality has allocated a budget of 11 lakh 69 thousand rupees for the installation of CC cameras in the city area in the current financial year. City chief Mohanmaya Dhakal said that the camera connection work has been started with the aim of developing Birendranagar municipality as a 'digital city' and a 'safe city'.
She also said that CC cameras have been installed in Surkhet to control drug addiction, theft, robbery, fights, road accidents and other security challenges through technology. As part of the plan to make Birendranagar an orderly city, efforts have been made to connect the rule of law with technology.
