A fugitive defendant who was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in a drug case has been arrested. Lakshman Sapkota of Birendranagar Municipality-6 of Surkhet, who was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and a fine of five lakhs by the court, has been arrested.

The 42-year-old was arrested from Birendranagar by the special team of the Karnali Police Office. Sapkota was sentenced to imprisonment and fine by the High Court Tulsipur Dang on 5 June 2080.

After the decision, Sapkota, who was on the absconding list, was arrested by a special team of the police from Khajura area of Birendranagar, said DSP Mohanjung Budthapa, spokesperson of District Police Office Surkhet.

It was shown by the police investigation that he mostly lives in India and sometimes hides in various districts of eastern Nepal. Spokesman Budthapa said that he was able to be arrested under high police surveillance.

Sapkota, who was arrested for the execution of the verdict, has been produced in the Surkhet District Court and has been sent to the prison office in Surkhet to pay the prison sentence.
