Route, an endangered community, has planted trees. Raute, who makes wooden materials by massaging forests, planted a tree in Okhaldhungachaur of Lekbensi Municipality-9 in Surkhet on Sunday.
In coordination with Division Forest Office Surkhet, 34 people have planted trees.
Divisional Forest Officer Basantabavu Shrestha said that trees were planted along with the route to encourage participation not only in cutting trees but also in conservation. According to him, they have been made to plant different types of plants for the purpose of helping the next generation of Raute. 300 plants including khair, sisau, masala, amla, harrovarro etc. have been planted.
Secretary Sher Bahadur Shrestha of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment of Karnali Province, Director of Forests Ganesh Tripathi, Chief Umesh Paudel of Lekbensi, Divisional Forest Officer Vasantabavu Shrestha and others planted the trees.
These days they have been living in Jupra River of Lake Bensi-10. The Raute community, which is the only nomadic caste in the country, lives in Surkhet, Dailekh and other districts of Karnali. Now the population of Raute is 135.
