Bagchaur municipality has arranged for free ambulance service for pregnant women who have to be referred if they cannot give birth in the health institution.

Municipal chief Janakraj Gautam said that the municipality has provided free ambulance service so that pregnant women with poor economic conditions can easily reach the hospital with facilities and do not die prematurely.

The municipality has also allocated a budget for free ambulance service for pregnant women with complex problems from the 14th Municipal Assembly.  If there is no ambulance in the municipality, the family in trouble will use another vehicle to take the pregnant woman to the hospital. The municipality will provide the vehicle rental. Chief Administrative Officer Hari Bahadur Kathayat told . There are maternity hospitals in 6 ward health institutions within the municipality. Those who are unable to give birth at the maternity home are referred to the district hospital. After the municipality arranged a free ambulance, more than 60 people from the municipality took the service last year, he said.

Vinod DC, head of the health department, says that after the municipality arranged a free ambulance, the women of the most economically disadvantaged families are relieved. He says that maternal deaths have been completely stopped and the deaths of newborns have also been reduced.
