Traffic lights have been put into operation for the first time in Birendranagar market of Surkhet. The traffic lights connected to the square at Birendrachowk have been put into operation.
Batti Nagar Chief Mohanmaya Dhakal handed over the lights installed with the aim of reducing traffic congestion and risk of accidents to Sunar, chief lawyer of District Traffic Office, Surkhet. Mayor Dhakal informed that the traffic lights which have been started from Birendra Chowk will be extended to other areas as well.

Similarly, the municipality has prepared to install traffic lights in other intersections where there is heavy traffic. In the current financial year 2081/082, under the approved annual program, the municipality allocated 30 million rupees to install traffic lights at Birendra Chowk.

Municipality has also advanced the process to complete the construction of sky bridge at Mangalgadhi Chowk, which has a high traffic of passengers and vehicles, by June 2083. For this, a budget of 2 crores has been managed and the contract process has been started. Mayor Dhakal said that with increasing urbanization, Birendranagar is going to be made an organized city.
