Surkhet police arrested one person with five kilos of opium. Police arrested 46-year-old Jai Bahadur Basnet of Junichande rural municipality-10 of Jajarkot along with five kilos of 450 grams of opium from Chinchu in Veriganga municipality-10 on Wednesday.
According to Sudhirraj Shahi, Chief of District Police Office Surkhet, it is said that after receiving the information about opium trading, after continuous surveillance and investigation, it was possible to seize such a large amount of opium. The police said that the person carrying the goods was arrested, but the main person is absconding.
In his initial statement with the police, Basnet, who was arrested, said that he produces and distributes opium himself.
The police said that the initial value of the seized opium during the investigation was Rs 8 lakh 86 thousand 400. Basnet, who was arrested, said that if it can be delivered to India, its value will be up to 5 million rupees.
