Birendranagar Municipality-8 of Surkhet has been declared child-friendly and environment-friendly ward. The announcement was made during a program on Saturday after the ward fulfilled the criteria for child-friendly and environment-friendly declaration.
After fulfilling the 51 indicators and standards mentioned in the Local Government Operation Act 2074, Child Friendly Local Governance Implementation Guidelines 2078, Child Friendly Local Governance Implementation Procedures 2079, the ward has been declared child friendly.
Similarly, with the completion of the environmental indicators, the ward has also been declared an environment-friendly local government ward. Announcing the
ward, the Chief Minister of Karnali, Yamlal Kandel, said that the local level should put children and environment first priority in every area. To ensure the protection, development and participation of children, the local, state and federal governments should work with a sense of responsibility . In the
program, Mohanmaya Dhakal, head of Birendranagar Municipality, informed that within one year, the entire Birendranagar is ready to be made a child and environment friendly municipality.
He said that the policy decided by the municipality and the development work being conducted are being carried out in a child and environment friendly way.
