The family of 8 people belonging to Ramane Bishwakarma of Narharinath-6 Malkot Ratakhal was devastated when the house caught fire on Saturday evening. When the minor son lit the lighter, the clothes caught fire, and the family was in trouble after the clothes, food and cash were burnt.
'We couldn't put out the fire that started with clothes on fire,' complained 53-year-old Vishwakarma, 'a family of 8 was hungry and slept in someone else's shed. All the wealth gained by going to India and working as a wage worker has been destroyed.'
Locals tried to extinguish the fire by carrying water from a nearby stream, but could not be extinguished, said Pouram Bishwakarma, Ward President of Narharinath-6.
Vishwakarma said that 20,000 cash kept in a tin box, his wife's jewelry and 13 beehives were also burnt.
Ramita Batala, the officer of the Empowered Girls Project, told that the house caught fire in the afternoon, but the family members were safe, but all the properties were burnt. 'The children don't even have a dress or a copy of the book. There is an urgent need for help,' she said. According to her, the police have raised a bond for the loss of more than 1.5 million including the house in the fire.
