Kapurkot rural municipality of the district has honored 14 couples who have inter-caste marriages. With the aim of eradicating caste discrimination and untouchability, the rural municipality honored 14 couples who had inter-caste marriages.

Village Chairman Durga Bahadur Pun said that inter-caste married couples were honored with cash and food as they became an example of social harmony and equality by marrying Dalit and non-Dalit communities within the municipality.

'Even now caste discrimination and untouchability have not been eliminated not only in the municipality but in the entire district. From time to time, they are seeing different kinds of problems,' he said. Intercaste married couples have helped to spread social awareness.'

Heera Wali, Head of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Unit of the village, said that they honored the couple as they played an important role in ending untouchability by inter-caste marriage when caste untouchability still exists in the society.  She said, 'In the past, the family did not allow couples who had inter-caste marriages to enter the house. The society used to ignore it. Because of this, married people were forced to live far away from the society,' she said, 'Inter-caste marriage has brought some changes not only in the family but also in the society.' Since caste discrimination and untouchability is not possible for just one or two people, she urged everyone to do it.
