'There is no grass to eat, no shelter to live in,' she says, 'the rain has started again . I have started to worry about staying.'

51 villages at risk
51 settlements of all 9 local levels are at risk due to landslides in Kalikot. 500 houses of 13 settlements of Narharinath are at risk of landslides.

11 of Raskot, 7 of Sannitriveni, 7 of Khandachakra, 3 of Shubhakalika, 5 of Mahabai, 3/3 of Pachaljharna and 3/3 of Palata are mentioned in the District Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan. Citizens of those settlements are not able to stay at home when it rains in the evening . Some of them live in tents and some of them go to sleep at relatives' houses.
The district disaster management committee here has taken floods, landslides, droughts, stones falling from torrential rains and lightning as major disasters in Kalikot, according to Janak Sharma, assistant director. "You never know when a disaster will strike," he said. He said that due to lack of search and rescue manpower, equipment and resources, it would be difficult to carry out immediate relief and rescue work.

Search and rescue exercise
A search and rescue model exercise has been conducted in Calikot to avoid disasters.
Under the leadership of the District Disaster Management Committee, Red Cross, Kirdak Nepal, Hurendek, INF, Sahas and other organizations working in disaster areas have conducted model exercises at the local level including Narharinath, Sannitriveni, Raskot, with the headquarters Manm.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Rawat, a member of the District Disaster Management Committee, said that Red Cross, Armed Police and Nepali Army facilitated the model exercise.
