Head of Data Coordination Office, Surkhet, Vinod Acharya informed that the growth rate of Karnali is slightly higher than the national economic growth rate. He said that while the national growth rate is 4.61 percent, that of Karnali is 4.74 percent. He said that the economic growth rate and the size of the economy of Karnali are gradually increasing, so the situation is satisfactory. "Among all the 7 states, Karnali's economy is the smallest," he said.
In the last three years, the GDP growth rate of Karnali has been increasing. The gross domestic product, which was 2 trillion 30 billion rupees in the financial year 2079/080, reached 2 trillion 50 billion rupees in the financial year 2080/081. Acharya has also given the information that in the current financial year 2081/082 it has reached 2 trillion 55 billion rupees.
Karnali's contribution to the country's gross domestic product is 4.2 percent. Karnali has the highest contribution from the service sector. The contribution of service sector is 58.9 percent, primary sector 31.7 percent and secondary sector 9.4 percent. The service sector includes accommodation and food, wholesale and retail trade, information and communication, real estate business and other services.
The primary sector includes agriculture, forestry and fisheries, mining and quarrying, while the secondary sector includes industries, factories, electricity, gas, water, construction, etc. Since there are no big industries and factories in Karnali, the contribution of service sector and agriculture, forestry and mining-mineral sector is more.
Likewise, the per capita income of the gross domestic product has reached 1 thousand 89 US dollars in Karnali. Per capita income has also increased compared to the last 3 years. Last year it was $1,076 and before that it was $1,300.
