Journalist Sher Bahadur Thapa has been arrested on charges of caste discrimination and untouchability. 39-year-old Thapa, who lives in Dailekh's Athabis Municipality-6 and is currently working as a journalist in Birendranagar Municipality-7 Surkhet, was arrested by the District Police Office on Monday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohanjung Budthapa informed that he was arrested on Monday after a complaint was lodged against the accused Thapa on 11th Baisakh on Monday. According to him, the accused has been taken into custody and the investigation has been started by extending the deadline from the court.

Journalist Thapa wrote a status on Bal Bahadur Thapa's Facebook account on the evening of May 10th, saying, "Don't do anything but stay in the village and do community work. I worship you, not the God of the temple." Accused Thapa made a comment about the Dalit community using the racially discriminatory term 'Dumlai Napalnu'.

A complaint of caste discrimination was filed against him for that comment. Accused Thapa was absconding soon after the complaint against caste discrimination was lodged. Thapa is also a central member of the CPN-UML-NIK Press Chautari.
