Yam has started for the collection of Yarsagumba, a valuable herb found in the forest area of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality.

With the start of Yarsa collection, the village council is going to open the forest entrance from June 13th. Residents of the district and common people from outside the district come to collect Yarsagumba found in more than two dozen Patans of the rural municipality.

According to the village council, the forest entrance fee has been set at 2000 per person for the residents of the district and 2000 and 500 for the collectors coming from outside the district. After entering the forest, during the collection of yarsa, the village council has requested not to do any activities that may affect the environment.

Chairman of the rural municipality Tshiring Kapne Lama said that they were asked not to throw away plastic items and not to cut down and steal trees and plants randomly during the Yarsa collection. Yarsagumba can be found in more than two dozen forests and plantations including Rirmaan, Big Koiki, Sano Koiki, Chhapakhola, Charku and others in Ward No. 1 and 2 of the rural municipality. Collectors who have paid the forest entry fee for forest entry will be allowed to enter the forest area on the morning of May 13.

security challenge
According to the decision of the rural municipality, it is said that they will allow entry to Patan for collecting yarsa only after 13th of June, but it has been found that the yarsa thieves have already entered the forest  . With the security challenge, hundreds of people have entered Patan area with the intention of stealing. According to the locals, more than two hundred people, Yarsa collectors from local and external districts have entered Patan overnight.

After receiving information about the illegal entry, the village council said that a meeting was held between the village council, the security agencies and stakeholders, and strict fines and legal action have been prepared for those who violate the rules. Last year, the rural municipality collected 71 lakh revenue through Yarsa collection. Village chairman Lama informed that the target of collecting revenue up to 80 lakhs more than that this year.

The rural municipality has said that the permit system will be strictly implemented in coordination with the Nepal Police, Armed Police and stakeholders to organize the collection of yarsa . Locals say that the size of Yarsagumba has been decreasing for the last few years. As the challenge increases in the protection and management of Yarsa, an additional security challenge has been added to make the municipality comply with the rules.
