Partnership has been established with 14 local levels of Karnali Province for disability prevention and rehabilitation program. The Ministry of Social Development of the province has partnered with local levels for disability prevention and rehabilitation programs.
According to the Ministry, the program is going to be conducted through the local level for the treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of disabled people. The ministry and local levels have partnered to run the
Monday program. The ministry invited proposals from all local levels for the partnership program. Suvarna Khadka, Head of the Social Development Division of the Ministry of Social Development informed that 14 proposals have been submitted out of the 79 local levels of Karnali.
According to him, Surkhet's Bheriganga Municipality, Panchapuri Municipality, Choukune Rural Municipality, Simta Rural Municipality, Raskot Municipality of Kalikot, Sannitriveni Rural Municipality and Shubhakalika Rural Municipality are there.
Similarly, there are Chaurjahari Municipality and Musikot Municipality in Rukum Paschim, Tripurasundari Municipality in Dolpa, Mahabu Rural Municipality in Dailekh, Darma Rural Municipality in Salyan, Junichande Rural Municipality in Jajarkot and Simikot Rural Municipality in Humla.
It is estimated that around 10,000 people with disabilities can benefit from this program in these local levels. However, it is said that the program will be conducted according to the proposals of the local levels.
The program will be conducted according to the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Partnership Program Operation Guide issued by the Ministry. Accordingly, the main activities of the program will include programs related to prevention and facilitation of disabilities, identification and treatment of disabilities, targeted programs aimed at improving the living standards of people and families with disabilities, and institutional strengthening. According to the provision that the ministry can cooperate with various international and national organizations to carry out activities according to the
guidelines, coordination has been done with Karuna Foundation Nepal, NFD-N and UNICEF.
Social Development Minister Dhanshyam Bhandari, while speaking at the orientation program among the officials and stakeholders of the local level for the disability prevention and rehabilitation partnership program, urged the local levels to work responsibly for the effective implementation of the program.
He said that the provincial government has partnered with the municipality because the local levels are directly connected with the disabled people. In order to ensure the rights of people with disabilities, priority should be given to public services and delivery of goods.
