For the first time in Salyan, an endangered and rare tree species called Unyu has been found. Endangered and rare tree species were found in two community forests of Darma Rural Municipality and Kapurkot Rural Municipality of the district.
After the discovery of the tree species with the scientific name Saithia spinulosa, its first official record has been made in West Nepal. Botany Research Center Kapurkot, Karnali Province Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forestry and Environment and according to on-site study at the local level, tree species have been found in Daurekhola of Dhulkhark Community Forest of Darma Rural Municipality 3 and Kalika Community Forest of Kapurkot Rural Municipality 4, Mitra Pathak, head of Botany Research Center Mulpani Salyan said.
Four species of Saithia found in Nepal are listed in Saitis and two of them are endangered, one is rare and one is endangered.
According to him, the tree is found in different places depending on the country. Unyu is a tree species found at an altitude of 750 meters to 2,000 meters in eastern and central Nepal, while in Taiwan it is found in dense forests at an altitude of 300 to 2,500 meters. It has been confirmed that the tree species has spread from east and central to west Nepal after the discovery of tree species in two community forests of Salyan.
Kalilo Munta, known as Daure, is used for eating vegetables in the local caste, and it has been used as a medicine in the treatment of skin, diabetes, kidney, eye infection, cancer and tuberculosis, and it is used as a decorative material in some places.
In Salyan, not only the number of tree species but Kankatsingha, Van Champ, Sunakhari, Tatelo and other plants have reached an endangered state, he said that there is a plant office for the protection of those plants.
After Netralal Gharti, an agricultural technician of Darma Rural Municipality, published a photo on social media, Jeevan Sharma, an environmentalist working in Kumakh Rural Municipality and employment coordinator and working on forestry, confirmed the disappearance of endangered and rare tree species from the studies of various agencies.
'Unyu fern is a tree species. Which is found in hot temperate climate. It has a lot of biological, environmental and educational importance," he said. He urged everyone to take action in the conservation of endangered and rare tree species.
