Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 KV power transmission line extension work has resumed after a long time. For 2 years, the work was stalled after the locals did not give land for the construction of high-tension tower in Baijnath Rural Municipality-1 Banianbhar in Banke.
Security personnel have been deployed in the area since Saturday and the work has resumed. The locals of Baniyanbhar have been saying that while there are various options, if the transmission line is taken from the middle of the village, their livelihood will be affected. The Karnali state government coordinated with the Lumbini state government and the local administration and restarted the work.
"We have tried many times to bring the locals to an agreement, but instead of reducing the dispute, the help of the local administration has been taken," said Ravikumar Chaudhary, head of the project. Under the project, out of 162 towers, 153 towers have been constructed. He informed that the project will be completed after the completion of 9 towers.
In June 2077, the Indian company RS Infraproject Pvt Ltd has taken the contract to extend the line from Kohalpur in Banke to Birendranagar in Surkhet. He initially signed a contract for 70 crore rupees for 24 months. But so far the deadline has been extended 4 times. Although the work in other sections was regular, there was a problem in the work in that section. After the delay in the
project, the Chief Minister of Karnali Yamlal Kandel had informed about it to the Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar some time ago. Chief District Officer of Banke informed that enough security personnel have been mobilized to prevent disruption of the work. According to Ravikumar Choudhary, head of the
project, Rs. 25 lakhs, 28 lakhs and 32 lakhs have been fixed for the disputed area. He said that compensation will be paid to them according to the rules. The distance of the transmission line from Kohalpur in Banke to Subbakuna substation at Birendranagar in Surkhet is 52 km. He informed that the wire has also been pulled in the area where the
tower has been constructed. Chief Chaudhary said that almost 80 percent physical progress has been made on the transmission line so far.
When King Birendra came to Surkhet in 2045, the 33 kVA line connected to Surkhet was connected to Dailekh, Jajarkot, Jumla, Kalikot, Rukum and Salyan. Central transmission line has been extended to about 150,000 houses in Karnali, according to the Karnali Regional Office of the Electricity Authority. Harksinh KC of Birendranagar-6 said that since the 132 KV transmission line is not extended, they are suffering from problems such as power outages and lack of voltage.
